Here's a question to ponder...
Steve Harmon's defense attorney, Kathy O'Brien, says she wants to make her client look like "a human being in the eyes of the jury" (p. 16) in contrast to the "monsters" who the assistant district attorney claims are "willing to steal and to kill, people who disregard the rights of others." (p. 21) Why do you think Walter Dean Myers named his book Monster?

I believe the author named his book monster to show that people can be monsters. I believe he directs that towards those who can kill without mercy or regret towards others

I honestly think Walter Dean Myers named his book Monster because he wanted to show his readers that whom you may think is a monster in reality is not a monster. At least from Steve's perspective.
The reason this book is titled Monster is actually quite simple. Between the court sessions of the book, we read his journal entries on what prison life is like. While the word is never actually used, the common interpretation of his time in prison can be simply summed up; "NIGHTMARE".
What else is in our nightmares, but the monsters of society?
I think that he named the book monster so that he can establish that a lot of people will kill for money and drugs.
I think he named the book monster because Steve was called a monster but he doesn't think he is.
I think the book was called monster because thats what others label those who are convicted of committing serious crimes.

The book monster may be based on the author story. The author may have had a troubled past and he may want to some what atone for past mistakes, this book is a way to spread, to atone, and tell the author's story. We all have a story to tell.
I think he named this book Monster because wanted to show the world his negativity. Writing about the depressing things that happen to unfortunate people. Altogether I believe he named this book this because.. Oh, I don't know, the kid gets called MONSTER! C'mon now, think about it geniuses. Yet again though this book is filled with conflict and negativity. You're better off making us read The Diary of Anne Frank; either way it's negativity and depression. Good game.Don't get mad though, you asked for my opinion. =] Truth hurts, doesn't it? Student proving a point scares people sometimes. ;D <- Happyface.
Don't get mad, get Glad. =D
FREEDOM~! First Amendment, baby. ;D

I think that Walter Dean Myers named this book Monster because of the fact that Steve seems to think that he's a monster while he's in jail. He sees all these other people that are in jail for terrible things..and he's not..everyone that dislikes this book is a hater..
and they're probably illiterate..
But I'm not and I enjoy this book..
SO POWER TO WALTER DEAN MYERS!!
WHOO!!!
I think he named this book monster because he wanted to show people what a monster in reality does and does not do.

i believe he named the book monster because of what the word ment to steve and the impact that it had made on him when she said it. and he wasnt sure of who he was and wether or not he actually was a monster.

i think he named the book monster b/c steve knew how much it put pressure and stuff on him and the jury thought it would put alot of pressure on him also.
