Did he lie?

On page 224, O'Brien asks Steve if he was in the drugstore on December 22, the day of the robbery. He says no. But on page 140, Steve writes in his journal that he "walked into a drugstore to look for some mints, and then I walked out." Does this mean he lied under oath? Does this make you question Steve's innocence?

I think he did lie under oath, but that doesn't make me question his innocence for as O'Brien said, he had to distance himself from James King as quickly as possible and as far away as possible or the jury would, hands down, said he was guilty.

Yes he did lie about him being in the store on that day. He did lie while he was under oath. His decision to lie under oath did make me question his innocence a bit.

i'm not sure if you can actually tell when he is lying and when he's not, because in jail his thoughts and actions and dreams all start blending and contorting together. so you can't actually trust his thoughts through out the book you have to more trust what you absolutely know about him and what other people know about him. But no, this did not make me question his credibility just made me search through it more.

The only fact that makes me believe his innocence is his constant confusion.
Yes, he lied under oath and it obviously makes one question his innocence. If he lied about just walking into the drugstore for some mints, then what else did he lie about?

i think he did lie because if his story changes then he is a liar so he's liar and everyone knows it.

he did lie under oath because O'Brien told him to keep a distance. He was there, he knew he did bad, and he lied.

This does not make me question Steve's innocence, because he really said he was looking for mints, not "looking for people who could've potentially ruined the 'getover'(robbery)". I do think he lied under oath, and THAT made me a little uneasy.

yes he did lie under oath because he said that he was in the drugstore and then under oath he said that he wasnt, so if he lied about that it causes me to think that he may have lied on the other questions.also there was the part in the book where king asked him to be the look out man and they dont tell if steve says yes or no so he could have been a part of it the whole time.
