Another question for thought

Many students love the screenplay writing format and many students dislike it. What do you think? Why do you think Walter Dean Myers chose to integrate that format into the book? Why did he include the journal writing at some points in the story?

I do not like the screenplay format. It makes the book a lot harder to understand and keep track of what you have already read. I believe the author choose that format, because his main character likes to film stuff and wants to be a director and stuff when he gets older. I think that the author included journal entries from the main character to show what the main characters life was life outside of the courtroom and to show what the main character was thinking during the trial.

Mrs.Freeman's / Mr. Schu's mod 1 class took a vote on the format.Three people liked the screen play format and seven people did not. The seven who did not like the format said that they felt their reading was interrupted by the screen play directions.

In all honesty I haven't the slightest clue why Walter Dean Myers wrote the book in the incredibly annoying way. While reading this book, I find it impossible to put myself in his shoes, place myself in the courtroom, or even sympathize with him. Yes, it is sad he is being accused of a crime he so obviously did not commit, which is blatantly obvious because of his terrible confusion. But at the same time I know nothing about him. I cannot see him, or feel him, I can only hear him......

I think the format of the book is very easy to follow.-Very confusing at first, but as long as you think like you want to direct a movie its a good format ^-^.-I think W.D.M. fits in Steve's notebook entries to enhance the reader's knowledge about Steve and his beliefs. It upholds a strong connection and understanding between the reader and the main character Steve.

I like it. It is more appealing to me instead of staring at a hundred words in a single page.

truthfully i hate the fact that it's wrote in screenplay format because if im gonna read a book i want to read a book not a screen play but i think he included the journal to get into his mind more and actually see who he is instead of what other people think about him

I am not a fan of the screen play format it is a terrible way to format a book all it does is slow down the reading process and confuse others.

The book format is rather interesting . I reason i think he it in this format is because it hasn't really been done before. I think it is a creative of odd way if doing it, i don't really dislike it, though. He also include the journal entries is to get a better look at the main character, his view points, his story, and personality.

It's me again. Mr.Open Opinion, good news though. I believe that this format is unique, unlike the normal.

Thomas took a long sip of his ice cold lemonade.

"Back to the kitchen, you."

Not at all like that, it's written in a script format that presents the creativity of the Author's mind. Giving the read more for there buck rather than my example.

I honestly disliked the format of this book because of two reasons, one, Extremely confusing at first and then second it was very tedious to imagine all the different scenes. I also think he used the journal writing in the book because he wanted to make it break away from the constant scenes of the court, so the reader wouldn't lose interest.

I personally love the format of the book. and i think the author chose this format because it was something different to do and it made it more of a movie experience and i think thats what he was trying to get at.
